Curriculum Vitae

Jochen Schmidt is a group leader at the Institute of Interfaces and Particle Technology of FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg. He received his diploma in Chemistry (2004) and his doctoral degree in Physical Chemistry (2008) from Friedrich Schiller University Jena. In 2025 he completed his habilitation in Particle Technology at the Faculty of Engineering of FAU with a thesis on processes for production and functionalization of powder feedstocks for laser powder bed fusion of polymers and powder feedstock characterization.

Research interests

Particle technology and mechanical process engineering in general with a focus on formulation of particulate products via top-down processes (wet and dry comminution, melt emulsification) and precipitation approaches; bulk solid mechanics, interface engineering, particle measurement technology, characterization of dispersed systems, (structural) material characterization, mechanochemistry, recycling, non-polar polymer dispersions; particle systems for additive manufacturing and printing applications, drug delivery systems; sustainable process and product design.

Research output

132 reviewed publications, 92 of them in international peer-reviewed journals, three WO patents, h-Index: 31 (Scopus); 36 (Google Scholar) (as of 11.07.2025)

Activities as Reviewer and Editor

Reviewer for various national funding bodies and international journals including Additive Manufacturing, Powder Technology, Advanced Powder Technology, Polymers, Materials, Journal of the American Ceramic Society
